Pelvic Floor

There are specifically trained Physical Therapists that can assist with exercises for the Pelvic floor, and much more, to improve various difficulties that may be encountered.

Pelvic floor musculature weakness can occur after giving birth as well. Your grandchildren may experience this, especially with sneezing.

You can read more about this in the book called ”WOMENS WATERWORKS BY DR. PAULINE CHIARELLI”

We are aware of various types of discrete non-bulky undergarments for men and women that have varying levels of absorbency. Advances in technology have improved these products immensely and people should not discount their benefit based on previous examples.

Comfortable accessories can be a bridge to working on pelvic floor strengthening while being comfortable in case leakage is a possibility.

We found a link during our travels, to Confidex New Zealand, for leak-proof underwear.

Questions to ask a Physical Therapist

Can you explain your proposed treatment plan?

How long before I will begin to see results?

How many treatments do you think I will require?

Do you have therapists specifically trained in the treatment of the pelvic floor?

The above bullet points will educate you on your therapist outcomes and whether they are a good fit for you.

What does this mean? Outcomes boil down to how fast they can get you better. Remember, a good therapist may cost more per session, but you are likely to have fewer sessions overall and ultimately you will save money plus enjoy life more fully with more function and or less pain.

What type of therapy can a pelvic floor therapist do to help?

The most important aspect of any therapy or interaction with a therapist is for the diagnosis to be confirmed.

Your therapist will, most likely:

Speak with you confidentially to understand your history and symptoms.

Provide an explanation for you as to what may be the cause of your symptoms.

Outline a treatment plan for you, based on the type of outcome you require, the assessment of your history, symptoms, and examination, if required.

Explain to you that you will have exercises to undertake between appointments.

Provide practical coping advice for you to manage your symptoms during the time your healing is underway.

Follow up with you to ensure your progress is being managed correctly.

Pelvic floor therapists can assist you in all aspects associated with pelvic floor health, including but not limited to continence issues and pain.

Remember, both men and women have pelvic floor dysfunction and both genders can benefit from treatment.
